"You can't teach an old dog new tricks."
Well, that's surely not true. There are many older folks doing things now that they they would never have considered possible.
To claim that older people cannot learn or indeed change, is to dump a lot of people on some human scrapheap of sorts. And there's just so much that's wrong with that.
I am convinced by the idea that we do not experience reality directly, rather we build mental maps and operate from these. The quality of these maps then determines the sorts of experiences we have.
We are constantly changing. The same holds for the world around us. The trick then is to review and update those mental maps.
